Great days out in Rochdale visitor guide

A new 'Great Days Out in Rochdale' guide has been laucnhed to provide ideas and recommendations for fun family days out in the borough this year.

The guide includes Rochdale Town Hall, Hollingworth Lake Country Park, East Lancashire Railway Healey Dell and Tearoom, Ellenroad Steam Museum and Touchstones Arts and Heritage Centre. There's a profile of what to see and do in and around Littleborough, a summary of the area's major annual events as well as a handy location map of the borough.

For those wanting to explore more of the borough's rich history the guide features blue and purple plaque trails, as well as the Cotton Famine Road, featured on BBC2 last year.

You can also find out the history behind Middleton's stunning architecture - the 'Golden Cluster', designed by Edgar Wood, including the oldest church, pub and school in Greater Manchester.

The guides have been distributed throughout Greater Manchester and Lancashire, including hotels, central train stations, tourist information centres, libraries and visitor attractions, in preparation for the summer break.

Councillor Janet Emsley, our cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture said: "The borough is packed with lots of perfect days out and we've put together this guide to give people a flavour of the attractions, activities, heritage and family fun available. Combine it all with our beautiful countryside, picturesque villages, reservoirs, exciting festivals and designer shopping and the borough is a fabulous destination all year round. We're already getting ready for the next edition and we'd like to hear from anyone who has a suggestion of what else should be included."

As well as many spectacular events there are lots of things to enjoy all year and this guide highlights some of the best."
