Fundraiser launched to raise £10,000 for victims of London fire

Date published: 14 June 2017

Abdul Khalik has launched an appeal on behalf of Human Aid to raise £10,000 for victims of the fire that ripped through a block of flats in London.

During the early hours of Wednesday morning (14 June), a deadly blaze tore through Grenfell Tower, a block of flats near Notting Hill. Six people are reported to have died with a further 64 people injured, 20 are currently in critical care.

Over 200 firefighters, 40 fire engines and around 20 ambulance crews were called to the scene.

A statement released by London Fire Brigade said: “Police have confirmed there have been six fatalities and say they expect that figure to rise. The Brigade was called at 00.54 and crews are still at the scene working tirelessly to bring the fire under control and to carry out systematic searches of the tower block.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”

Human Aid is an international humanitarian charity which strives to alleviate the suffering of the oppressed.

Mr Khalik, who lives in Rochdale, said: “It’s the London branch co-ordinating the efforts; the fundraising page is to reach out to the wider community to show some support.

“Let’s do our bit from the north and help our brothers and sisters who have literally lost everything. We’re fundraising for blankets, clothes and shoes for children and adults, toiletries, food and money to help the families get back on their feet.”

Human Aid UK is committed to a 100% donation policy.
