New recruits to be sworn into police
One hundred new recruits will be officially welcomed by Greater Manchester Police.
The student officers will be sworn in as part of a formal ceremony to make them police officers.
The Attestation Ceremony will be held at Harrop Fold School in Salford and is an opportunity for family and friends to witness the new recruits make their oath to uphold their role with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality throughout their service.
They will be affirmed into their roles by Chief Constable Ian Hopkins. He will be joined by magistrates Stephen Paine and Mike Philips.
The new officers come from a range of backgrounds and bring lots of new skills with them that will assist as they start their new role policing their communities. Many of them are fluent in a second language, which will help give access to our services for all communities in Greater Manchester.
The recruits, who are made up from civilian applicants, will have to complete a two year probation period which also includes classroom based learning and one year on active patrol. During their training they will have the same of level of authority as regular officers, including the power of arrest.
Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, said: “Our policing philosophy is based on neighbourhood policing, which is why it is so important for our new officers to be attested within the communities they will be a part of.
“These new recruits, like their colleagues, have to be prepared to face potential challenging situations in order to ensure the safety and security of the public. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for choosing to become a part of our police family and wish them all success in their future careers.”
This attestation ceremony like those we have held previously is an important occasion for the police force and the community.
These officers will replace those colleagues, who are retiring, maintain the current level of officer numbers.
