Almost 80,000 revellers descended on Heaton Park for Parklife

Almost 80,000 revellers descended on Heaton Park this weekend for Parklife.

Superintendent Graeme Openshaw of GMP’s Force Events Section, said: “Once again, it was great to welcome everyone to Manchester for Parklife.

“I’m pleased to say that the event went well and the majority of people who attended enjoyed a safe and memorable time, thanks to the great work from our officers and colleagues at Parklife, Manchester City Council, Bury Council, North West Ambulance Service, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, NHS Manchester and Transport for Greater Manchester.

“The disruption of the Metrolink required contingency plans to be put in place but we worked closely with partners to ensure people got safely back to Manchester.

“This was greatly helped by the good humour of the festival goers many of whom were happy to walk back to the city and we provided additional officers along the route.

“Considering there were almost 80,000 people going into the park each day, there was a relatively small number of arrests and I would like to thank everyone who took part in planning and everyone who attended for making it an enjoyable event.”

There were 55 arrests over the two days, for offences including possession of drugs with intent to supply and public order offences.
