Local YouTuber visited by YouTube star Vikkstar123 after winning AMD Ryzen Powers You contest

Date published: 11 June 2017

A YouTuber who lives in Rochdale, known online as 'MetricateGames', has won the AMD Ryzen Powers You contest, receiving new expensive gaming equipment worth $5,000 and a visit from renowned YouTuber, Vikkstar123.

Vikkstar123, one of a group of seven British YouTubers known as ‘the sidemen’, has over 15 million subscribers to his gaming channels, which he has been running for over five years.

MetricateGames, who has a popular gaming channel with over 11,000 subscribers, was visited by his fellow vlogger on 3 May after winning the contest.

He said: “The day Vikkstar came without a doubt was one of the best days of my life.

“A couple of months ago, he announced a competition with AMD [a gaming company]. The winner would receive a really expensive gaming computer and setup and meet Vikkstar for tips and to make a gaming video alongside him; which was insane, by the way.

"To enter, I had to make an 8-10 minute video explaining what I would use the new gaming rig for, what games I’d play and what my goals were for my channel. I didn’t get my hopes up as I knew the submissions would be extremely high in number and quality.”

A few weeks passed and MetricateGames received an email from Freaks4UGaming’s community manager, Christian Baits. He sent confirmation of his age and address before a second email the day after named him as the winner.

MetricateGames said: “I freaked out. I was so happy but I kept asking myself if it was fake and ‘have I actually just won this’? A million things were running through my mind at the time and didn’t know what to make of it.

“It started to get more real when I was invited for a Skype meeting with Christian Baits and everything we discussed made me realise I was in for a real treat.”

During the evening of 2 May, Metricate received a message confirming Christian and a colleague from Freaks4UGaming were in Rochdale and staying at the Royal Toby Hotel.

Metricate continued: “That was the moment when I knew everything was completely legitimate and I couldn’t believe it. This was right before I went to sleep and I was so excited.

“The next morning, I was getting more and more hyperactive and nervous at the same time and all I was interested in doing was watching the clock and looking outside to see when they were arriving.”

Christian and a colleague from Freaks4UGaming arrived at Metricate’s door and immediately started setting up the new equipment for Vikkstar’s arrival.

He added: “Vikkstar was up all night and set off from London in a taxi around 4.30 in the morning. I was told not to go outside straight away when he arrived.

“When he got out of the car and I met him, I wanted to freak out but also wanted to keep it cool. He looked at me and grinned as he shook my hand.”

The duo recorded a dual interview for AMD, where they asked each other questions before Vikkstar gave advice and tips to Metricate.

Metricate commented: “He even let me critique his channel a little bit too, which was a lot of fun. Not a lot of fans can say they have done that. We then recorded a gaming video for my channel on my new computer and recorded a Grand Theft Auto V video together where he coached me playing, which was one of the best highlights of the day.

“Vikkstar had to leave around half three, so we recorded our solo interviews and our last dual interview for AMD and that went really well. Everything will be showcased on AMD’s YouTube very soon.”

He concluded: “It was a very happy and emotional day for me. After they left, I walked back in the house and all I was trying to do was stop myself from crying in happiness. The day turned out much better than I ever imagined and I couldn’t believe how much support I received from Vikkstar, AMD, Freaks4UGaming and ESL, they all literally made my day.”
