Liz McInnes romps home in Heywood and Middleton

Date published: 09 June 2017

Labour's Liz McInnes retained her Heywood and Middleton seat, with 26,578 votes, a majority of 7,617.

Ms McInnes said: "The people of Heywood and Middleton have sent a clear message to the Tories, that their austerity is unacceptable. The Labour Party offers hope and I will work to keep that hope.

A Labour spokesperson added: "We are absolutely delighted with the result.

"Heywood and Middleton was a target seat for the Conservatives, and this has shown them that the election was a mistake.

"Through the hard work of Liz and the whole team, we’ve accomplished yet another win."

Conservative candidate Christopher Clarkson said: "I’m obviously disappointed that we didn’t win, but I’m delighted that we have more than doubled our votes from last year, and we have taken two thirds of UKIP votes."
