Cancer care centre set to open its doors

Date published: 08 June 2017

The new cancer care centre within the grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital, Maggie's, will be opening its doors to the community for the first time this Friday.

Maggie's is inviting everyone to visit the new centre when it officially opens and learn more about the centre and how it can help those affected by cancer.

The centre will be open from 4pm until 6pm for members of the community to get a first look at the impressive facility and take a tour of the site.

There will also be tea and cake available and a chance to learn more about the charity.

Bernie Byrne, Centre Head at Maggie's said: "We'd like to welcome everyone in the local area to join us at our upcoming opening events for a cup of tea, a slice of cake, and a look around their new Maggie's Centre in Oldham. Please bring your friends, family, and work colleagues along with you too.

"Everyone is welcome at Maggie's and we'd love you to join us to celebrate the opening of this fantastic new facility in your community, which will provide practical, emotional and social support to people affected by cancer in your local area."

Maggie's features a unique design by acclaimed architects dRMM and stunning gardens with the aim of providing an 'oasis of calm' with the design incorporating nature, light and homely atmosphere.

The centre, which is set to be named Maggie's Oldham, the Sir Norman Stoller Centre, in honour of Sir Norman and The Stoller Charitable Trust which has donated £3million to support the charity, is predicted to receive 10,000 visits every year.

Those attending the centre once it has opened will given access to Maggie's evidence based programme of support, including psychological support, benefits advice, nutrition workshops, relaxation and stress management, art therapy, tai chi and yoga.

Anyone who cannot attend the community event is encouraged to visit the centre during one of the drop in events in the following week.
