Rochdale soup kitchen sponsored by MWG Solicitors and Rochdale Association of Private Hire Drivers

Date published: 08 June 2017

The Rochdale soup kitchen at the former Magistrate’s Court was sponsored by MWG Solicitors on Thursday (1 June), covering the costs of catering for those in need of the service.

The Rochdale Association of Private Hire Drivers (RAPHD) are set to sponsor the cause for the first Thursday of each month, covering the costs of catering for approximately 50 people.

The soup kitchen, operated at the former Magistrate’s Court by Rochdale Community Partnership, has been operating for five months and has 50/60 regulars who drop by for a hot meal and tea or coffee each Thursday.

Tayab Nabi, a volunteer with RAPHD, said: “We recently had a conversation with Mohammed Wajid of MWG Solicitors in Rochdale who was inspired by the charity work RAPHD does. He insisted on sponsoring the next soup kitchen event on 1 June and felt all members of the community should participate in such charitable events.

"It’s really good to see members of our community coming together for the betterment of everyone.”

Mr Wajid, Head of Employment Law at MWG Solictors, said: “Since its inception in 2009, MWG Solicitors has always been involved in charitable work in some form or another. Having opened the Rochdale branch only recently, and having lived in Rochdale all my life, we could not pass up the opportunity to get involved in such a worthy cause and help the local community which we are now serving.

"It is also refreshing to see so many people volunteer and give time to help the less fortunate which also sheds some positive light on our great town.”
