Recovery Republic wins Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

Date published: 02 June 2017

The Recovery Republic, a wellbeing centre based in Heywood, has been given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Dr Michael Taylor, director of Recovery Republic and Linda Harte, volunteer and facilitator of the Heads Together Group, attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace on 23 May where the award was presented in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen and Prince Philip.

The certificate citation states: 'Providing positive activities and proactive peer support for people on their journey to recovery from mental ill-health'.

Dr Taylor said: “Volunteers are the backbone of the Recovery Republic. This award represents a tremendous achievement; positively acknowledging our volunteers’ hard work, dedication and commitment in helping others. Everyone involved, but particularly our volunteers, feels very proud of the recognition that the QAVS represents.”

Mrs Harte said: “It is indeed an honour and a privilege to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. I feel immensely proud to have been chosen to represent all the volunteers and to receive the award on their behalf.”

The award, created by Her Majesty The Queen in 2002 to mark the occasion of her Golden Jubilee, recognises excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community.
