Whitworth Vale and Healey win Best Percussion honours

Whitworth Vale and Healey Brass Band won Best Percussion at the 91st Holme Valley Brass Band Contest at Holmfirth Civic Hall.

The band also finished third in section B test piece and third in the hymn tune.

Sam Milton, 14, from Whitworth Community High School, played both tuba and percussion.

He said: “I played two to three pieces on percussion and then switched to playing the tuba.”

Sam will join Rochdale Youth Brass Band on 9 June to take part in the Whit Friday band contests in the Saddleworth villages.
