School Lane, Ashworth Valley closed due to stuck HGV

Date published: 15 May 2017

School Lane in Ashworth Valley was closed this morning, Monday 15 May as a Romanian HGV driver had followed his sat nav and got stuck at the end of School Lane, trying to get to the paper mill at bottom of Ashworth Road.

The HGV had come from Edenfield Road down Furbarn Road and onto School Lane, hoping to turn left onto Ashworth Road, but the junction is to narrow and the HGV got stuck.

Police assistance was requested as the road had to be closed at both ends.

Four hours later, after having to reverse the full length of School Lane, the HGV then became stuck at Furbarn Road.

A spokesperson for The Friends of Ashworth Valley said: “When are RBC Highways Department going to get their act together and pass a Traffic Act?

“They need to install correct signage rather than advisory signs currently in place, to stop this regular occurrence, wasting police resources and The Friends of Ashworth Valley volunteers time who helped and directed the vehicle whilst the driver negotiated the narrow lane.

“There needs to be No HGV's/ Long Vehicles sign.

“Come on Highways Department and ward councillors we need your help.”
