Andy Littlewood seeking to be an "independent minded contrarian" MP for Rochdale

Date published: 14 May 2017

Andy Littlewood, a volunteer community worker who has served as chairman of the Tenants and Residents Association of Lower Falinge, is contesting the Rochdale parliamentary election under the banner of Greater Manchester Homeless Voice.

Mr Littlewoood said: "Rough sleeping in England has risen for six years consecutively, more than doubled since 2010 and currently stands at record levels. In major urban areas the scale of the problem is most apparent. The issue if further exacerbated by the underfunding of healthcare and education.

"The national housing shortage has caused an increase in Britain's literal homeless population and is responsible for an unsustainable housing bubble that risks establishing a 'homeless' generation as young couples on full time salaries find themselves entirely priced out of the housing market.

"Everyone has a right to housing where homes are fit for purpose. I am standing as I am passionate about Rochdale and want to make it a better place for all to live."

Mr Littlewood says Parliament needs "independent minded contrarians who are willing to speak truth to power", and he will be working over the next four weeks "to convince the people of Rochdale" that he can be that voice.
