Louts smash another tram window

Another tram has been attacked by yobs.

Metrolink bosses have confirmed a window was smashed during rush hour on Thursday by louts hurling missiles from the side of the tracks.

A missile was thrown at around 5pm as the tram travelled between Hollinwood and Failsworth, breaking a window, forcing the tram out of service and causing delays. Luckily, nobody was injured in the latest incident.

It follows an incident on Monday evening when a Metrolink driver suffered head and chest injuries after a rock was thrown from a bridge near Derker and smashed through the windscreen.

Police are still investigating the incident and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Metrolink's Tactical Support Unit and GMP have increased patrols.

Transport for Greater Manchester's head of Metrolink, Danny Vaughan, said: "We are resolute in our commitment to tackling the problem of anti-social behaviour head-on and I hope the numerous steps we take every single day are a reflection of that.

"It is one that requires a multi-agency approach - which is the approach we are taking - but also the will and support of the community.

"I'd actively encourage people to think about where their children are and what they might be doing and would ask anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour to report it.

"Only then can we fully understand and respond to the problem at hand."
