Sharon Hadnum and Emma Hampton show it’s never too late to learn

Date published: 09 May 2017

Mature students Sharon Hadnum and Emma Hampton showed it’s never too late to learn after finding new employment as Animal Nursing Assistants.

The new roles come for the pair after studying an Animal Nursing Assistant course at Hopwood Hall College, with the aim of one day becoming Registered Veterinary Nurses.

Sharon, 45, will starting a new career with Jackson & Nuttall in Middleton in a full time role once she completes her course this year. Emma, 37, will similarly be joining Valley Vet Care in Rochdale once she too has completed her course this academic year.

The two animal lovers met each other on the Hopwood Hall Course last year, after both decided they wanted to move into a new career path.

“It was a bit of an anxious feeling going back to college as a mature student.” Explained Sharon.

“You don’t know how it will be, being on a course with loads of students younger than you. But all the students at Hopwood have been brilliant socially and I’m really glad I took the plunge.

“I’m just really excited to start my new career and hopefully progress to one day be a trained Veterinary Nurse.”

Emma echoed similar sentiments in regards to taking the decision to enter education in a brand new field.

“Based on my experience, I really recommend that people who may be hesitant about retraining commit to it. The tutors have been very supportive and have taught me a huge amount, not just in my Animal Management course, but in Maths and English too.

“I don’t have a bad word to say about the studying experience, I’m really ready to get started on this new path and hopefully become a Veterinary Nurse down the line too.”
