Mr McCabe and Mr Ward run the London Marathon

Mr McCabe and Mr Ward both completed the London Marathon on Sunday 23 April. The streets were lined with spectators offering support, encouraging the runners every step of the way.

Mr McCabe commented: “The atmosphere was magic. It is amazing the power of encouragement you can get from a complete stranger. At mile 21 when I felt like I had used every ounce of energy, the cheers from the crowds and encouragement from fellow runners helped me to keep on running.

“It made me think that with encouragement and a ‘can do’ mentality we can achieve almost anything.”

“Crossing the finishing line is such an exhilarating feeling and it was made better by imagining all the needy charities that have been supported by the event.” Mr McCabe ran to raise money for CAFOD and managed to secure over £3000 for the charity.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were joined by Prince Harry to start the race. The royal trio, who champion the race's official charity Head Together, also cheered runners along at different points of the route. Some runners wore ‘Headstogether’ headbands to make an opportunity to get the country talking about mental health.

Chaplaincy News

Our Pupil Chaplains have been leading our Easter Celebration assemblies this week.
They began by reminding us that Easter, not Christmas, is the most important season in the Christian calendar.

They also explained why we eat Easter eggs as a symbol of new life in Christ.

Quoting Saint John Paul II "We are the Easter People and Alleluia is our song!", we were challenged to think about how we are changed personally by the events of Easter.

Through the Gospel story of Thomas, the Pupil Chaplains helped us to understand that even Jesus' closest friends were challenged by his Resurrection.

It wasn't until Thomas was able to see and touch Jesus' wounds for himself that he was then able to say "My Lord and my God!"

During a few moments of quiet personal reflection, pupils were then invited to think about their own faith journey.

LINC News

This week we welcomed St. Patrick’s Primary School for the first of three creative media sessions. The Year 4 group were delighted to hear their fantastic radio broadcasts which we listened to via our state of the art classroom speaker system in the LINC.

The students selected commercial adverts and songs to accompany their shows and included a jingle, selling points and an interview.

All of which were planned and rehearsed here at St. Cuthbert’s. Each student took part in one of the six radio shows and then were given copies of the media files to share with the rest of the school.

Well done St. Patrick’s – we look forward to seeing you after the summer break.
