Sweet response to Springhill Hospice as borough prepares to Go Green

Date published: 28 April 2017

Cake features highly as plans are being put in place to Go Green again this year for Springhill Hospice on Friday 12 May and event organisers are sending out the message that it is not too late to join in.

It’s a chance to have fun and help raise much needed funds to support the work that the Hospice does.

Schools, nurseries, libraries, sports centres, offices and homes have signed up to raise money by taking on the Hospice’s colour green for the day.

Springhill Hospice shops across the borough will also be Going Green.

Barbara Lloyd from the Hospice Fundraising Team said: “The great thing about Go Green is that everyone can choose what they do and how they do it.

"Hold a cake bake, fancy dress, football match, aerobics class, party night, Tweet-fest or quiz. Just theme it Green and go for it – cup cakes, comic characters or cocktails, the choice is endless.

"Events taking place include walking the distance of the M60 at Rochdale Leisure Centre,

"The Children’s Library at Number One Riverside will be holding a story time session and children at St Martin’s Parent and Toddler Group in Castleton will be wearing green and selling cakes.

"Other supporters where cake baking will feature are Gordon Riggs Garden Centre, Middleton and Balderstone Libraries – all of which are open to the public plus local building contractor H Bell & Sons and Brownhills Learning Centre who will be one of many doing events for staff or pupils."

A public launch event for Go Green 2017 will be taking place on Saturday 6 May in Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre from 10am to 3pm when J D Gyms will be holding an indoor cycle challenge in the shopping mall along with a Springhill Hospice prize tombola.
