St George’s Day Parade in Rochdale

Seven Scout groups from the Rochdale Township with Wardle Anderson Brass Band led the St George’s Day parade in the glorious sunshine on Sunday.
A service took place at 2pm at St Chad’s Parish Church, welcoming the honoured guests including the Mayor Ray Dutton and Mayoress Elaine Dutton. The district colour parties entered next before Reverend Mark Coleman was welcomed.
An introduction from the District Commissioner, Alan Sharkey, was given before the Scout Hymn and presentations from Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.
‘One more step along the world I go’ was sung before the National Anthem finished the service.
Wardle band led the procession down Church Stile onto Fleece Street and onto The Esplanade where Commissioner Sharkey gave the salute, accompanied by the Mayor and Mayoress.
Parents and spectators lined the route for the parade.
The Rochdale Township Scouts who took part in the parade comprised of: 6th Rochdale (Oakenrod), 7thA Rochdale (Spotland), 10th Rochdale (Norden), 12thA Rochdale (Smithybridge), 17th Rochdale (Wardle), 29th Rochdale, 37th Rochdale (Silk Street) and 1st Rochdale (Milnrow).
