Liz McInnes tweets she is standing down and votes against the election

Date published: 19 April 2017

Heywood and Middleton MP Liz McInnes posted a tweet on Tuesday saying she is standing down as an MP just hours after the Prime Minster called for a snap general election.

On Wednesday, MPs voted by 522 to 13 in favour of Theresa May's proposal to hold the general election on 8 June. One of the thirteen dissenters was Liz McInnes.

Ms McInnes entered Parliament in October 2014 having won the Heywood and Middleton seat following Jim Dobbin's death, though with a much reduced majority beating UKIP by just 617 votes.
