Metrolink technical failure caused rush hour disruption

Date published: 12 April 2017

Metrolink suffered delays across the entire network on Wednesday causing issues for commuters during the evening rush hour.

Transport for Greater Manchester said a technical failure of Metrolink's central operating systems at 5.15pm prevented staff in the Network Control Centre from being able to monitor tram movements or CCTV.

It also affected communications with passengers via platform passenger information displays.

Many commuters complained about the disruption to their journeys, with some saying they had been delayed by up to 40 minutes.
