Police observe two-minute silence for PC Keith Palmer

Date published: 10 April 2017

Police officers gathered at the Rochdale Cenotaph at 2pm (Monday 10 April) for a two-minute silence for fallen PC Keith Palmer, who died during the Westminster attack last month.

Superintendent John Ruffle lead the silence to honour PC Palmer, as his funeral began in central London.

Over 100 people observed the silence outside Rochdale’s Town Hall, including Councillors Aasim Rashid and Sameena Zaheer, council workers, ex-police and members of the public.

To mark the end of the two minutes, Superintendent Ruffle thanked everyone for paying their respects.

PC Palmer, 48, was fatally stabbed during the attack after a car was ploughed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge on 22 March. He had a five-year old daughter and was married.

Police officers across the country travelled to line the route for PC Palmer’s funeral procession, and others held a two-minute silence. The flag at Greater Manchester Police’s headquarters was also flown at half-mast in his memory.
