Town centre dispersal notice due to antisocial behaviour

Date published: 08 April 2017

Police again have had to put into place a dispersal notice in the town centre after an increase in the number of antisocial behaviour issues being reported. This is in place from 5pm Friday until 5pm on Sunday.

Any groups in the town centre between these times causing problems will be issued with a direction to leave and a map to outline the area from which they are excluded. This also includes a time they are excluded from the area.

This is the second recent town centre dispersal notice following a similar notice which ran from Friday 17 March until Sunday 19 March.

During the early March dispersal period three teenagers were arrested for breaching a direction to leave after police issued them with a notice to leave the town centre and they returned a short time later.

A police spokesperson said: "If any individual who is issued with a notice returns to the area within the map before the time on their notice has expired then they will be arrested.

"We want people to have an enjoyable time whilst in the town and a small handful of individuals are spoiling this experience for others."
