The total prize fund for the Rochdale Half Marathon and 10K is over £2,500, with voucher prizes for the first five men and women in the Half Marathon and 10K, plus eight age category prizes for both races.

Top prize for the half marathon is a £100 voucher for nationwide running store ‘Up and Running,’ with an £80 voucher going to second place, £60 for third, £40 for fourth and £30 for fifth.

The winner of the 10K will get an £80 voucher, with £60 for second, £40 for third and £30 and £20 for fourth and fifth placed runners.

There are also two club team prizes up for grabs and prizes for the first two non-club teams.

Councillor Janet Emsley, the council’s cabinet member for culture, health and wellbeing, said: “Entries are already 35% up on this time last year and we are hoping to see a lot of new faces.

"With a one mile and 10K as well as the half marathon there’s something for every ability.

"We are expecting to attract runners from across the North West and beyond, giving a boost to the local economy.

"This event helps promote health and fitness as well as putting the borough in the spotlight.

"The health benefits of running are widely known, and it is my hope that this event will inspire people to take a more active interest in sports and embrace a healthy lifestyle.”

On Sunday 8 October runners will set off from Rochdale Town Hall across new traffic-free courses taking in town and countryside, including a stunning section around Hollingworth Lake.
