Simon Danczuk wants to hear residents’ views on future of College Bank flats

Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s MP, has called on residents of College Bank flats to give their views on the future of their estate. In a bid to give a voice to people affected by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing’s proposals for the flats, Simon has sent a letter to residents asking them to fill out an attached questionnaire with their views on College Bank.

The letter, which has already started to arrive through letter-boxes asks, among other things, whether residents would prefer College Bank to be saved from demolition.

The questionnaire can be returned to Mr Danczuk’s office using the envelope provided. Alternatively, residents can send their views via email:

Mr Danczuk said: “It is true that in recent times these buildings have not been in their best condition. However, I believe that the current state of the flats is down to mismanagement from RBH - a blind-spot which they refuse to address. I am of the opinion that demolition is an extreme measure, which in this case serves only to cover up unacceptable mismanagement from above.

“I want to hear the thoughts of residents on these proposals. Whether you are for or against RBH’s plans, or think College Bank Flats should be taken in an entirely different direction, your opinion counts.”

Mr Danczuk has said that RBH has not properly consulted residents of College Bank, and more needs to be done to make sure the community has a say on its future.

He added: “RBH must be made to listen to the views of their residents, whether it suits them or not.”
