Alder trees planted in Wince Brook

Date published: 06 April 2017

Fifteen Alder trees have been planted by Ranger Mike Cummings near the river in Wince Brook.

A representative for The Friends of Wince Brook said: “One of several problems with Wince Brook Nature Reserve is that power cables cross it. In previous years, Electricity North West have pruned the trees beneath them.

“However, this year they decimated the area beneath the cables by uprooting all the trees. They did subsequently plant 300 small 'whips' but they will take years to grow. We have also planted 300 trees and will continue to do so at the next planting season, from November.

“The trees were planted alongside the river on the opposite bank to the houses on Old David's Close. The Alder species because they had to be a species resistant to wet ground.”
