Doggy Dash For Life taking place on Sunday

Date published: 05 April 2017

The Three Amigos Fundraising Group seventh annual Doggy Dash For Life will take place at 11.00am on Sunday (9 April) at the Visitors Centre at Hollingworth Lake.

The event promises fun for all the family as you walk, jog or run around the Lake - with or without a canine companion.

This year the event is being held in loving memory of Nigel Hunter, who lost his battle with bowel cancer on 4 December 2016.

Nigel lived in Littleborough for over 30 years and married his wife Debbie in 1993. They both loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking their Border Terriers, Talisker and Arran. Nigel was a very fit man who loved climbing, skiing and was a talented photographer. He also served the community as a Police Officer for 30 years.

He was diagnosed in February 2016 but never complained making light of what he was enduring.

Nigel and Debbie attended the Doggy Dash For Life several times; Nigel came second with his dog Arran in 2012.

Kath O’Donnell of The Three Amigos Fundraising Group said: “When my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2004, Nigel was one of the first people to come and visit him, showing his support for what we were going through.”

Money raised from this years’ event will be donated towards bowel cancer research via the charity.

Goody bags, rosettes for all pre-entries and prizes are available for: most sponsor money raised, first adult and dog back, first under 16 and dog back, and best dog in pink fancy dress.

Prizes can also be won at a tombola stall.
