Ebony Flood to make football debut at Dallas International Girls Cup

Date published: 31 March 2017

Ebony Flood, 12, from Smithy Bridge, is set to make her international football debut at the Dallas International Girls Cup in April.

Ebony, who is in Year Eight at Wardle Academy, is the youngest member of Blackburn Rovers’ U14 team and has been playing football since she was seven years old.

Her mum, Joanne Ashworth, said: “She’s very excited. She’s counting down the days. Myself and Ebony’s are proud of her.

“We wish her and all her team mates all the luck in the world, and we can’t wait to hear all about it when she returns.”

Joanne says Ebony decided she wanted to play football at such a young age and played for the boys’ team at Whitworth before having trials for Manchester City.

Right-back Ebony moved to Blackburn Rovers when she was 10 and trains for three hours every Monday and Wednesday and plays matches on Saturday mornings.

More than 90 of the most competitive girls’ teams worldwide will take part in the cup contest, with teams from Australia, Colombia, Norway, Spain and the UK entering.

The Dallas International Girls Cup takes place between 12 and 16 April at Dallas Farmers Branch, Texas.
