Congratulations class of 2017

On Tuesday 21 March Year 11 celebrated their pre-public exam results day. For many students, this was an opportunity to celebrate the subjects they have achieved above expectations but it was also a time for students to reflect on the subjects that they need to apply more effort to achieve well in the final exams.

We congratulate the following students: Caroline, Kasandra, David, Kanyun, Connor, Wiktoria, Shawn, Lilin, Nikola, Stacey, Marlena, Jack, Ella and Alex who achieved on average half a grade higher across all their subjects than would be expected for their ability level.

This represents outstanding progress during their five years of study at St Cuthbert’s. One student commented: "I can't believe I have done so well. It feels really good"

We also congratulate Wiktoria, Oliwia, Nitin, Connor, Jack, Lilin, Alex and Marlena who were our highest attainers in the pre-public exams. A special congratulation is deserved by our highest performing student Wiktoria who achieved 5 A*s, 1 B, a grade 7 and a grade 8.

Congratulations class of 2017! Two and a half months to go until the real exams. How many grades can you move up with determination and dedication in that time? Keep up the hard work.

‘Chari-oke’
On Monday 20 March, our Student Council Representatives co-hosted a lunchtime Chari-oke with members of the DEN team, the Pupil Chaplains and the CARITAS Ambassadors. It was a huge success raising a whopping £36.40 in just 50 minutes which will be donated to Caritas.

Many members of staff and students sang their hearts out and really entertained our crowd. Mrs Ellidge, Mrs Egerton, Mrs Ansley and Miss McGinty would like to thank all staff and students involved in making it such a memorable event and helping to raise money for a worthy cause. A special mention must go to Jordan Breakwell after his incredible performance of "Never Gonna Give You Up" left us all beaming from ear to ear.

Art News

In Art the year 11 pupils have been working on their design ideas for the timed piece they are to complete after the Easter holiday. Yael Batour has been looking at architecture for inspiration and has combined gothic arches with Henna pattern to create some fantastic designs!

Rugby News

Congratulations to Year 11 student Beltus Nonleh who has been selected to represent Lancashire U16s Rugby Team in the forthcoming County Cup.

Coach, Dan Kelly said: “Lancashire has been something of a closed shop for teams like Rochdale in the past, so it’s great to see the lads putting Rochdale on the map.”

3 other students; Kyle Humphrey, Jackson Kelly and Kieran Jackson are also making great progress at Rochdale Rugby Academy and are set to achieve great things! Well done boys!

Year 9 GCSE Drama Trip

Year 9 drama group visited Oldham Coliseum as part of their GCSE research. We entered the theatre and experienced that magical experience of stepping out on stage. Our young people participated in a workshop acting out a scene from Willy Russell's 'Our day out.'

Students also explored back stage and saw the many careers in the theatre from set design, acting, director to props manager. Students were asked to explore the pros and cons of working in the theatre and saw the immense amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to make theatre happen.

They were challenged to design a costume for next year’s Panto Dame. We interviewed a panel of theatre workers including Jane the stage manager, Sue the marketing director and Chris the associate director. The insight into life in a theatre was amazing and encouraged many of our students to aspire to follow in their footsteps.
