Date published: 27 March 2017

Alex Nunns, a former Oulder Hill Community School student, currently studying A levels in geography, environmental studies and biology at Bury College has secured an offer to study geography at Oxford.

Alex, 17, who lives in Bamford, said of her  achievement: “I was so surprised when I received my offer letter through the post. I had always aspired to progress on to university.”

Alex is part of the Bury College Mentoring for Excellence scheme, a programme which is committed to supporting learners to achieve their full potential. Through university residentials and work experience placements, students develop the skills and knowledge to progress their careers.

Alex enjoyed an overnight trip to the University of Oxford where she was given the opportunity to try taster lecturers and received advice about the interview process. Alex also visited taster sessions at Leeds University, Manchester University and Leeds University.

Alex added: “The university trips I experienced gave me a great insight into what university entailed.”

Alex is now looking forward to going to the University of Oxford and subsequently pursuing a career within conservation and sustainability.
