The police helicopter proved popular
Police officers made a surprise stop on the Darnhill Estate to visit children at Our Lady and St Paul's School, Darnhill Study Centre, St Margaret's School and Building Blocks Day Nursery.
The children and staff enjoyed a visit from a police helicopter, firearms officers, police dog handlers and Jake (dog), mounted officers with their horses Barnaby and Steele, traffic officers, Martin Brower's with goody bags as well as the local PCSO and Inspector.
The children had the opportunity to meet the officers, ask questions, take photos and grab a goody bag.
A spokesperson said: "Most found the helicopter landing and taking off very exciting."
Local TV celebrities Debbie and Poppy Rush were invited to talk to the youths at Darnhill Study Centre about their careers, each offering advice on succeeding as well as stopping for photos and autographs.
Richard Bell, a basketball player from Manchester Giants, also visited and spent time teaching the youths skills and giving careers advice.
A spokesperson said: "They literally looked up to him and enjoyed playing with such a great player. Manchester Giants have invited the students to watch them at Friday’s game which they will enjoy enormously."
