Thousands of local pupils get first choice secondary school

Date published: 07 March 2017

Thousands of local pupils have been allocated their first choice secondary school.

More than 95% of local 11-year-olds will go to their high school of preference when they transfer in September .

The figures make Rochdale one of the best performing councils in the country for allocating children their first preference.

Last year over half of councils saw a drop in the number of children given their first preference secondary school.

Councillor Donna Martin, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This Rochdale success story is a huge credit to our schools admission team who ensured nearly every pupil was offered their first choice. It underlines the council’s proven track of record of investing in the borough’s young people ensuring they have the best possible start in life.

“I am delighted the council has delivered such brilliant results and I would like to wish every pupil starting secondary school in September all the best for the years ahead.”
