Large cannabis factory discovered

Date published: 06 March 2017

A large cannabis factory with 620 plants at various stages of growth has been discovered just off Yorkshire Street on the outskirts of the Rochdale town centre.

Officers from the town centre and Milkstone and Deeplish teams found the house kitted out with sophisticated equipment installed over a number of floors, spanning through several rooms.

All the plants have been removed.

Sergeant Daniel Shirazi said: “If anyone has any information relating to this discovery or has any suspicions about cannabis plants being grown in their neighbourhood, please report this to the police so that we can act on the information.

"There are a number of signs that you can look out for that indicate a cannabis factory is operating. They include no windows open and condensation building up, windows blacked out or curtains drawn at all times, and lights being operated by a timer switch. There may also be humming noises and strange pungent smells coming from the property. You may also see intermittent visits from the occupants and large amounts of industrial electrical equipment being brought to the property.

"If you have information about drug use or manufacture you can report it via 101 or anonymously via crimestoppers on 0800 111 555.”

No one has been arrested but enquiries are ongoing.
