Tap water "may appear discoloured" next week

Date published: 03 March 2017

Local residents are being warned that their water "may appear discoloured" or "reduced in pressure" on 7, 8 and 9 March, due to work being carried out in the area.

United Utilities says that whilst water won't need to be switched off during the work, the water may appear discoloured or cloudy and/or with a reduced pressure.

The discolouration is said to be "temporary" and "normal" and is caused by "harmless natural deposits that normally lie at the bottom of the water pipe being disturbed".

Advice given if you find your water is affected is to "slowly run the cold water tap at a trickle" - using the tap closest to your internal stop tap, usually in the kitchen.

The water is said by United Utilities to be "safe to drink".

However, if your water is discoloured a yellow or brown colour "do not wash any clothes, operate a dishwasher or use an electrically powered shower".

Discolouration can clear quickly but if the problem persists, call United Untilities on 0345 672 3723.
