Fisherfield Childcare celebrates World Book Day

Date published: 03 March 2017

There were Gruffalos and caterpillars and bears and aliens and, well, all sorts of characters, as Fisherfield Childcare celebrated World Book Day.

All seven Fisherfield nurseries, across Rochdale and Bury, took part in the fun.

The children were encouraged to come into Nursery dressed as their favourite character from a book, from Alice in Wonderland to Gruffalo.

They enjoyed all manner of activities based around some of their favourite books.

Children have prepared for the day by eating the same things as those eaten by Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar in the week before he transforms into a butterfly.

Becki Irvine, nursery manager of The Gables said: “All the children and staff have loved getting dressed up for World Book Day.

“The Little Lambs wanted to take their nursery rhyme time a little further and re-enacted Humpty Dumpty and even crack some egg props, but couldn’t fix him back together again.”

The children drew their inspiration for other activities from the books in their nursery library. Each nursery has its own library, stocked with all kinds of favourite books.

The children can even take the books home, by taking them out of the library using an old-fashioned library ticket and date stamp.

And Sandbrook Park, Edinburgh Way in Rochdale, even gets regular visits from Rochdale Council’s mobile library van.
