Protest demonstration against the 34% increase in allowances for councillors

Date published: 27 February 2017

Rochdale Unison and Rochdale LG Unite branch have called another protest on Wednesday 1 March at 5.30pm to coincide with the budget fixing council meeting against the huge rise in councillor’s allowances.

A spokesperson for the Unions said: "Please come along and bring friends and family.

"We want people to bring homemade placards saying what you would prefer the council to spend £172,000 on instead.

"For example: Bring back funding for road safety education in our schools, Fair pay for cleaners. They want 34%, we can’t even pay the rent."
