Major work by Electricity North West to install a power cable from the sub-station on Woodbine Street to the sub-station on College Road starts on Tuesday 14 February and will cause severe delays.
This is to improve the resilience of the power network around Rochdale and avoid major power outages which were experienced during the 2015 Boxing Day floods.
The works will affect various streets and several major roads around the town centre. The route taken will cause the least amount of disruption however sections of the scheme will likely cause major disruption.
Works affecting traffic sensitive streets have been planned as best as possible to take place during the school holidays, but due to the size of the scheme this isn't always possible. Traffic signals are to be manually operated during the peak periods to minimise disruption.
All works and traffic management will be removed by the end of Sunday 26 February 2017, ready for the start of the school term on the Monday morning. The work will then continue along Durham Street and the rest of the route.
The Council will be monitoring the progress and work with Electricity North West to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.

Works will progress along Oldham Road from Durham Street and onto Woodbine Street, this will require the use of temporary four-way traffic signals at its junction with Durham Street. It's highly likely that this will cause severe delays along Oldham Road.

St Mary’s Gate
Works will take place in the nearside lane of the southbound carriageway from College Road to The Esplanade this will require the near side lane to be closed for the duration of the works. It's likely this will cause severe delays.
