Gavin Vitler aiming to raise £1,000 to transform Middleton Hall Care Home garden

Date published: 09 February 2017

Carer Gavin Vitler is aiming to raise £1,000 to improve the garden at Middleton Hall Care Home by summer, so its elderly residents have an enjoyable place to use.

Middleton Hall Care Home, where Gavin works, is a private residence that provides both long and short term residential care for those over the age of 60.

Green-fingered Gavin is hoping to transform the barren wasteland of the garden, which currently has an uneven path with little grass on the lawns, overgrown trees and few decorative plants with just a few potted plants on the patio.

His plans include planting shrubs and a herb garden and also hopes to include raised beds for the residents to enjoy pretty floral displays and help with the planting if they wish. The garden also has the potential for one or two trees. Gavin is also thinking about including a small pond and water feature.

Wheelchair access will also be included, plus around four benches for the residents to use and enjoy.

Gavin said: “Due to funding cuts, the gardens aren’t so great. The Home is a lovely place with wonderful residents and they deserve somewhere nice to sit in summer.

“I’m hoping the community can donate benches, plants, cash or time to create some truly amazing gardens. Please help me on my mission.”
