Residents and staff at Middleton Hall Care Home celebrated national Dignity Action Day with an afternoon of games, cake making and entertainment.

Middleton Hall, on Grimshaw Lane, was one of hundreds of care and residential homes across the UK to mark the annual day which promotes elderly and vulnerable people’s right to dignity.

Mayor Ray Dutton showed his support for the campaign by joining residents and their relatives for lunch, before enjoying singing and music from local nursery children.

A packed day of entertainment concluded with top local singer Ian Jenkins performing classic hits from decades past.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, Rochdale Borough Council’s cabinet member for adult services, said: “The council is committed to upholding people’s rights to dignity so it was great to see Middleton Hall celebrating this important day. It’s vital that people who use care services are treated as individuals and given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives. Well done to everyone involved.”

Wendy Baggott, Middleton Hall care home manager, said: “It was a fantastic day, helping to send out the important message that vulnerable people should always be treated with dignity and respect. We were very grateful to the support of the council and the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale.”
