Rochdale Sea Cadet Corps awarded £3,000 for expedition equipment

Date published: 08 February 2017

The Rochdale Sea Cadet Corps has been awarded £3,000 to fund wet suits, cagoules, and over-trousers for the cadets to wear during expedition work and training around Hollingworth Lake and the Pennines.

Commanding Officer, Mark Stephens said: “We’re extremely grateful to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and the Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) for helping us get this funding.”

The grant was applied for by local PCSOs from the Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme (ARIS) on behalf of Rochdale Sea Cadet Corps, based on Greenbank Road in Rochdale.

The scheme provides GMP with a proportion of income from all cash seizures from the Home Office, made up of cash forfeiture orders and confiscation orders. A decision is made on how to use this funding, in line with Home Office guidance, for the benefit of the community.

A spokesperson for GMP said: “We applied for a proportion of funding for Rochdale Sea Cadet Corps, a youth organisation based on the traditions and discipline of the Royal Navy with the aim of developing young people and enabling them to become good citizens of the future.

“The Unit is open to all sections of the community, male and female, between the ages of 10 and 18, and is split between Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets.”

The Rochdale Sea Cadet Corps parade every Tuesday and Friday between 7.15pm and 9.30pm.
