Water off in Whitworth

Date published: 08 February 2017

Many properties in Whitworth, are currently experiencing little or no water supply, thanks to a leak on Hall Street on Wednesday (8 February).

The lack of supply is thought to have begun at around 6.30am and is still ongoing at the time of publication.

Affected areas include Hall Street, Hallfold, The Crescent, Whitworth Community High School and St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School. Both schools are currently closed, although the Year 9 Parents’ Evening at Whitworth is still going to go ahead as planned later this evening. Parents will be kept updated through texts.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “A leak on Hall Street affecting customers in OL12, has been spotted and reported to us. Our inspector has been to have a look and found this to be the cause for some of you having no water or just a trickle.

“A team of engineers has been requested to attend and should be on site as soon as possible. We’re sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we will get your taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can.”

Both schools have been contacted for comment.
