St Andrew's, Dearnley

Date published: 07 February 2017

In 2016 there were 51 baptisms at St Andrew's, Dearnley, a fact of great joy to the Ministry team, led by the Revd Mike Howarth, which is doing sterling work during our Interregnum.

In his church magazine article, 'Mike's Musings', our curate has revealed that new, attractive baptismal service books have been produced and these are often taken away by families as souvenirs of their big day.

He and his Baptism Buddies, Cynthia, Edna and Christine, who attend preparation sessions, get to know the families and provide a friendly point of contact, are now considering how to extend the Buddies ministry.

One idea is perhaps to send cards on the anniversary of the baptism to show families they are still remembered.

Most of all, though, Cynthia, Edna and Christine need help so anyone who feels they might have a calling for this ministry is asked to approach Mike or the three Buddies themselves.

Mothers' Union members are reminded that subs, £22, are due. Please see Christine Longhurst.

Also, we would like to receive old palm crosses from last year, or even earlier, so they can be used to make ash for the Ash Wednesday ministry on 1 March.

There will be a box in the parish room for you to leave them.

On Sunday, the third before Lent, we have our usual Sung Eucharist at 9.30am. All are welcome, and that means everyone who seeks God regardless of race, age, gender or sexual orientation.

Parish rota: lay assistants, J Mills, H Walker; readers, J Paterson, C Cook; Intercessions, S knight; sidespersons, E Burrow, J Ainsworth; refreshments, Carolyn, Pat, Margaret H.
