Greater Manchester Police is asking local people to get involved and help shape the first Citizen’s Contract.

The major consultation initiative is already underway and provides an opportunity for people across Greater Manchester to help shape policing in the next few years. To explain the idea behind the Citizen’s Contract a short animation has been developed that can be seen on the Force website.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “This is a significant undertaking and I hope that everyone will take the opportunity to get involved. We are going out to discuss what people expect from GMP and also what we need from citizens in Greater Manchester.

“We have faced significant financial constraints and still have £44m to save in the next four years. We have already reduced by 2,000 police officers. So, we are changing the way we work to continue to provide the best possible service.

“We all have a part to play in keeping Greater Manchester safe and the Citizen’s Contract will be an important step forward. People have a chance to get involved through the website, social media and meetings that are being organised.”

By the end of March 2017, GMP will have saved a total of £186m to manage the financial situation.

Views are being gathered between now and the end of March, when the details will be assessed and analysed before a Citizen’s Contract is published.

Events and meetings to discuss the Citizen’s Contract are taking place across Greater Manchester.
