Tesco Bags of Help funding available

Date published: 31 January 2017

Community projects in Rochdale could receive a cash injection from Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch the monthly roll-out of its funding scheme, which sees grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy, being awarded to local outdoor community projects.

Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £25 million to more than 3000 projects up and down the UK and the supermarket is now calling on community groups in Rochdale to put themselves forward for a grant.

Three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded grants each month. Tesco customers will have the chance to vote with a token given to them at the check-out every time they shop.

Pam Taylor, Store Manager at Tesco Rochdale, said: “The money raised from our customers buying bags is making a big difference to local communities across the country. Thanks to Bags of Help, over 25 million has been spent so far on local environmental improvement projects like parks, sports facilities, school playgrounds and communi-ty gardens – projects that have all been chosen by our customers.”

Phil Treaton at Groundwork, said: “Bags of Help has already made an incredible difference to outdoor projects and groups across the UK and we are incredibly proud to have been involved in delivering this amazing initiative.

“The new monthly format will see even more groups benefit from Bags of Help grants which is why we’re encour-aging groups in Rochdale to make sure they come forward and apply in order to benefit from this fantastic opportunity.”

The Bags of Help scheme is permanently open for applications and anyone can nominate a project at any time – whether it’s Tesco customers, colleagues or the community groups themselves. Ask in store for more information or visit the Bags of Help website, visitwww.tesco.com/bagsofhelp/
