Young people receive certificates of achievement

Date published: 30 January 2017

Young people from Deeplish Community Centre participated in a series of workshops and presentations to learn about ‘Don’t Hate, Don’t Discriminate’ and issues faced by young people.

This was delivered by Yasin Khan, Schools Equality & Community Cohesion Lead from Rochdale Borough Council.

He said: “It was great to see many young people participated in these workshops and purpose of these sessions was to educate young people. All participants were also completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

“I wanted to say how impressed I was by this group’s positive attitude towards learning, enthusiasm and impeccable behaviour.

“The young people were able to demonstrate an excellent attitude towards learning. I was very impressed with the group and I can honestly say they were one of the best groups I worked delivered the workshop to. All the young people are a real credit to the centre.

“This is an excellent example of Deeplish Community Centre, working in partnership and collaboration with the local authority. This has shown real leadership by having faith in the young people and empowered and enabled them to participate in these workshops. One would hope that this positive experience will have a lasting positive impact on the behaviour and attitude of the young people towards learning and better understand how to deal with any forms of hate crime.

“This was a great opportunity for the young people to learn about dealing with different types of hate crime prevalent in our society and build their resilience, increase their confidence, and to address these issues in a positive and pro-active manner.

"I sincerely hope that this will also lead to an improvement in the student’s outlook in life and of course in their overall educational achievement and successfully complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award. The young people have proven to be great ambassadors in local community and I have been very impressed with their questions and overall passion to learn.”

Sohail Ahmad, Manager at Deeplish Community centre said: “We are pleased to provide this opportunity for young people to participate in positive action for young people which is about learning and developing confidence. We are grateful for local authority to work with us in helping young people to develop young people’s understanding on crimes, prevent and how to report and handle in difficult situations in practical life.

"All young people received certificates of achievements towards the end of programme. I would like to say big thank you to Yasin Khan, who has made fantastic presentation and provided essential information to all young people.”
