A total of 16 people were taken to hospital after a collision between a heavy goods vehicle and a minibus near Junction 21 eastbound of the M62 on Tuesday afternoon (24 January).

Two fire engines from Rochdale and Rastrick in West Yorkshire attended the incident along with a technical response unit and a major rescue unit from Ashton.

North West and Yorkshire Ambulances Services took the patients, all from the minibus, to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

A NWAS spokesperson confirmed 12 patients they took were ‘walking wounded’.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival, crews found the incident to be involving one heavy goods vehicle and a minibus.

“One adult was trapped at the rear of the minibus and crews used cutting equipment to release the casualty. Crews were at the incident for 30 minutes.”

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “Yorkshire Ambulance Service dispatched a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and its Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.

“Two adults and 14 children were checked over at the scene of the incident and anyone requiring further hospital treatment was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.”
