Man brutally attacked in Heywood

Date published: 07 January 2017

A man suffered a broken eye socket, broken nose, bruised ribs and a laceration to the back of his head when he was brutally attacked in Heywood.

The victim, a 28-year-old man, was walking home from work at about 7.20am on Thursday 15 December on Tower Street when he saw a minibus taxi parked up and two passengers inside, arguing with the driver.

One of the men from the taxi then jumped out and approached the victim. A short time later, the victim awoke on the floor with serious injuries. There was no sign of the minibus, so the victim called his brother, and he went to hospital.

Police believe the victim was attacked by the man who jumped out of the minibus and are appealing for witnesses, in particular the minibus driver, to come forward.

The man who got out of the minibus is described as white, late teens/early twenties, shaved dark hair, of medium build and was wearing a dark coloured top.

Police Constable Jennifer Smith of GMP’s Rochdale Borough said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on an innocent man who was simply walking home from work.

“I am appealing directly to the minibus driver to come forward, as he may have seen what happened.

“The viciousness of this attack is astounding and rest assured, we are doing all we can to catch the attackers.”
