Tenders to run the Rochdale Market are now being processed by council.

Clifford Harker from the New Rochdale Pioneers, the co-operative group of stallholders of Rochdale’s outdoor market who have tendered for the contract, said: “We are highly optimistic and hopeful that we will be able to supply just what the people and town of Rochdale have been waiting for a long time now.

“We, the New Rochdale Pioneers, have ambitions to make the new market to be comparable with others.

“We feel excited that the projects we could bring, along with working with the council, can only benefit the town.

“There is a need to empower the market along with the council as these market traders are stakeholders in the town and we look forward to a bright future.”
