New Year message from Tony Lloyd, Greater Manchester’s Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner

Date published: 01 January 2017

As we bid farewell to 2016 and welcome in 2017, it’s a chance to reflect on the past and look forward to the future.

Greater Manchester is, of course, a great place to live, work and visit. We face challenges, not least the devastating cuts imposed on our services by central government, but also societal changes, and increasing pressures on home, family and community life.

In Greater Manchester we have always faced these challenges together, celebrating our differences but working as a united community to overcome adversity and build better neighbourhoods, better communities, a better Greater Manchester.

2017 is certain to bring fresh challenges, but also new opportunities such as the advent of devolution.

As we look forward to the new year, we all have a part to play in making Greater Manchester even greater, firmly establishing our city-region as one of the best places in the world.

We have many differences, in faith, in age, in race, in sexuality, in income, in health, but no matter what our colour or creed, here in Greater Manchester we can say with confidence that we step into the future together.

Tony Lloyd
Greater Manchester’s Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner
