Top ten most read stories on Rochdale Online in 2016

Julian Appleyard, Rochdale Sixth Form College Principal, bucked the trend with the news of him being awarded an OBE the only good news to make it into the top ten most read stories on Rochdale Online in 2016.

The most read story in 2016 was about Rochdale being one of the most murderous places in the country - read 69,000 times.

However, that number is nowhere near the record, which was set in December 2015 by the Boxing Day flood story, which has been read over 168,000 times.

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk made it into the top ten, at number seven, with his arrest in Spain after his ex-wife Karen was left "bloody and bruised" and "fearing for her life".

Propping up the ten was a story about a man needing to be rescued from the new opening of the River Roch in Rochdale town centre after trying to retrieve a five pound note.
