Michelle Parr says she feels like the ‘luckiest mum alive’ after her family were involved in a collision on Tuesday morning, which closed part of Whitworth Road.

Her partner, Darren Grainger had picked Michelle’s four children - Scott aged 12, Jordan 11, Katie, nine, and Latisha, eight - up from their father’s house and was on the way back to their home on Gale Street after visiting Tesco Express on Whitworth Road.

Michelle says their black Kia was hit as Darren was leaving Tesco car park when a silver BMW collided with the Kia, causing it to smash into a post. A black Audi A4 and a silver Honda Accord were also hit during the collision.

Speaking about the incident, she said: “All the drivers involved said the driver of the BMW, who ran from the scene, was doing about 60-70 mph, not 30. All the cars involved were written off; someone could have easily been killed.”

She continued: “At the minute, my kids are still very shaken up. They’re constantly going over what happened and my partner is also still in shock, saying he'd rather not drive again. I could have easily lost my family yesterday and it doesn’t bear thinking about, especially knowing the driver is still out there. I’m thankful my eight-month-old was at home with me. We’re all thankful it was nothing more serious.

“I spent the full night tossing and turning thinking about the ‘what ifs’. I’m so lucky to be able to say they’re all okay and I feel like the luckiest mum alive. Hopefully the kids will forget about it in time and my partner will get back on the road, but only time will tell as it is early days.”

Michelle added: “We took Darren and the kids to Rochdale Infirmary’s Urgent Care for a full check up. They were so brave and well-behaved. All four kids have been given painkillers for whiplash, and Katie has been complaining of neck pain. Darren’s been given strong painkillers for whiplash too.

“We have been left without a car, leaving us unable to make long journeys for shopping or taking the kids out.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Investigations are ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to contact police on 101.”
