St Chad’s Church on ITV Christmas Eve

Aled Jones and the congregation of St Chad’s Church in Rochdale took part in a candlelight Christmas Eve Carol Service which was shown on ITV on Christmas Eve.

Along with Christmas carols, the service also features bible readings, prayers and a reflection from the Vicar of Rochdale, Revd Mark Coleman.

Revd Coleman said: “I was delighted to be able to give an opening prayer at the service, a short address and the closing blessing.

“It was good for the people of Rochdale to sing together in good voice and share that with the rest of the UK.

“Of course, there were celebrities there too. I said in my Christmas address how much there was to celebrate about our working together for the common good - people of all faiths and none - and I made the point that heavenly things are to be celebrated at Christmas when the joy and presence of the Christ child is amongst us.”

Henry Hope, from All Saints’ Church and a member of the congregation, said: “It was a very pleasant experience. We were proud to be involved since it showed something good and positive about Rochdale, including some good singing.

"Rev Mark Coleman came over well, with an excellent address, clearly indicating his concern for the homeless and vulnerable people in our town.

“Aled Jones set a relaxed and pleasant tone to the whole event.

“It was interesting to be able to recognise so many people during the broadcast.”

Greg Couzens said: “Lovely to see Rochdale in such a good light, the service at St Chad's on Christmas Eve was a pleasure to see, different choirs and everyone from all walks of life joining forces, Rochdale and proud.”
